Modular Number Systems: Beyond the Mersenne Family

In SAC 2003, J. Chung and A. Hasan introduced a new class of specific moduli for cryptography, called the more generalized Mersenne numbers, in reference to J. Solinas’ generalized Mersenne numbers proposed in 1999. This paper pursues the quest. The main idea is a new representation, called Modular Number System (MNS), which allows efficient implementation of the modular arithmetic operations r...

New Mersenne Number Transform Diffusion Power Analysis

Problem statement: Due to significant developments in the processing power and parallel processing technologies, the existing encryption algorithms are increasingly susceptible to attacks, such as side-channel attacks, for example. Designing new encryption algorithms that work efficiently on different platforms and security levels to protect the transmitted data from any possible attacks is one...

The twenty-fourth Fermat number is composite

We have shown by machine proof that F24 = 22 24+1 is composite. The rigorous Pépin primality test was performed using independently developed programs running simultaneously on two different, physically separated processors. Each program employed a floating-point, FFT-based discrete weighted transform (DWT) to effect multiplication modulo F24. The final, respective Pépin residues obtained by th...

The Twenty-second Fermat Number Is Composite

We have shown by machine proof that F22 = 22 +1 is composite. In addition, we reenacted Young and Buell's 1988 resolution of F20 as composite, finding agreement with their final Selfridge-Hurwitz residues. We also resolved the character of all extant cofactors of Fn , n < 22, finding no new primes, and ruling out prime powers.

A Semi Number-Theoretic Approach and Proposed proof that CH is false

We introduce number theoretic systems for use in the study of subsets associated with the reals via its association with fractional portions of real numbers. Our techniques will then highlight properties associated with such fractionals that render these as part of the reals. We will then show that subsets of such fractionals can be formed, and finally we will then show that such sets-subsets p...
